Property Scans to Locate Possible In-Ground Oil Tanks

Property Scans to Locate Possible In-Ground Oil Tanks

Throughout the years, many underground tanks have been excavated and removed, legally abandoned or simply left unattended and unused. However, as the years pass by and property ownership changes, proper documentation which gives assurance as to the existence or absence of a buried tank is frequently not available.

Enviroshield has the capability of responding quickly to requests to perform metal scans of properties to look for possible buried tanks and to determine the history of fuel oil storage on a property. Magnetometer scans are the most effective means of identifying buried metal masses at most locations because of the flexibility of the unit, allowing our trained technicians to scan both overgrown and heavily landscaped properties, as well as scanning through some foundations, decks, and patios. Magnetometer scanning is non-destructive and an industry standard for determining the presence of a metal mass that could represent a buried underground tank.  Magnetometers can be used to detect metal through a variety of media, including, soil, ice, snow, pavements and in some cases, inside of buildings or homes.

This method of metal detection is very affordable and can save property buyers and owners thousands of dollars by not being surprised to find old, buried tanks, or the mess they can leave behind.

Property Scan Follow-Up Considerations

As importantly, our technicians are able to recognize the existence of former buried tanks that had been removed but (often times) leaks went unreported and/or unabated. In these cases, we recommend affordable non-destructive soil collection from under the former tank for laboratory analysis. This soil collection and analysis has discovered many locations with oil contaminated soil waiting to be found, not previously reported. Again, saving purchasers thousands of dollars of oil clean-up expenses necessary to comply with applicable State regulations.
